New Single 'Standing at the Door' out April 24th 2024
From self-titled debut EP out June 1st 2024 via Bandcamp
Mulholland Drive is the solo project of Australian born Mexico-based pianist, composer and producer Bryson Mulholland. Mulholland fuses many genres depending on his mood including neo-soul, jazz, bossanova, West African and indie rock.
Standing at the Door is the first single to be taken from Mulholland Drives' debut self-titled EP.
This song is a self-portrait. The protagonist is standing at the precipice of life. At a cliff’s edge.
A crossroads. Unsure of his next move, he reveals to the listener:
‘coming from a place where no one been, he carve his face with sin’;
‘he's a lover, but he tries to get by on his own.’;
‘many know him, they don't really know him, deep within.’
Mulholland questions the fragility and depth (or lack of) of human relationships.
Sonically, the piece is a sublime wall of sound. It provides the listener with a warm, yet outer-worldly experience.
Guitars wail. Pianos thud. Drums do what they’re told to do.
Produced by Nick Edin. Nick Edin guitars and Daniel Brates drums.
Video produced by Bryson Mulholland.
January 26th 2024. Debut Single, 'Someplace Else'
Someplace Else is Mulholland Drives’ debut single.
In this track, Mulholland draws influence from post-punk outfits such as Joy Division, Gang of Four and Sonic Youth.
The song lyrics are inspired by the artwork Threading Remains, a mixed media piece by Mexican artist Kathryn Medina. “Just stop thinking, worrying, looking over your shoulder wondering, doubting, fearing, hurting, hoping for some easy way out, struggling, grasping,… Stop it and just DO”
Mixed by Murray Johnstone. Murray also guests on electric guitar, bass, supernatural backing vocals.
Video filmed in Veracruz, Mexico by Bryson Mulholland and edited by Murray Johnstone.
